When I was a kid, we had family day trips in the summer. On Sundays, my dad would pack up the minivan, my mom would pack a picnic lunch, and we would go on mini adventures. Wisconsin is full of mini adventures – trips to the zoo, museum tours, hiking, stopping in random cheese stores, and brewery tours.
Yes, brewery tours.
We might get older, but some things will never change. Today we loaded up the Hyundai and had a good old fashioned family day. Love.
First stop – New Glarus Brewery. I am a member of a New Glarus beer family. You will not find a Miller beer in my father’s fridge. Or my fridge for that matter. What you will find is a lot of Spotted Cow and collection of NG’s many other beers.
So. Much. Beer.
They’ve been taking on us brewery tours (and one very funny distillery tour) since we were kids. It’s very Wisconsin of them…especially since neither is actually from Wisconsin.
A rainbow of beer is a beautiful thing.
Wisconsin is a beautiful place.
If you ever find yourself in Green County, WI and you don’t go to Baumgartner’s for lunch…well we can’t be friends. Usually when we go, I get a cheese sandwich (obviously). On Sundays in the summer, they have a special grill menu.
Don’t hate. Grilled hot dogs are one of my favorite foods! Plus, Baumgartner’s has ridiculous chili. This was amazing and I washed it down with a Berghoff root beer. This is the life.
Second stop – Minhas Brewery. Oldest in the midwest. Second oldest in the country. 10th largest in the US. Youngest brewery owners in the world. Minhas is winning at life.
If you put that on a glass, you best not be lying (they’re not).
I think we need to revive our Sunday family day. What’s the plan for next Sunday? Stand-up paddle boarding? Picnicking at Vilas Park?
